Šilalo Panori: The Songs and Life Stories of Slovakian Roma – Jana Belišová

As part of Off The Shelf 2019, Roma Futures has invited Jana to Sheffield.

Jana Belišová is an ethnographer and musicologist at the Institute of Musicology, Slovak Academy, Bratislava. Since the 1990s she and her students have been recording and cataloguing the music and songs of Slovakian Roma, some of whom now live in Sheffield. Jana explores the relationship between the songs and the life stories of Roma people in a talk illustrated by audio and video, based on her project Šilalo Paňori – Cold Water.

Music and Song at Sheffield Hubs

Lukas Pokuta; Dominik Pacan, Stefan Pecha & Erik Pacan performed a medley of Romani songs alongside Robin Grey at the Sheffield Youth music event at Yellow Arch studios on Sunday 8th July.

The boys were welcomed to the event and took the chance to sing with Robin accompanying them on guitar. The organisers of Sheffield music services were delighted to hear the songs and meet the boys. Plenty of applause and a photo with Sheffield Magic Magid, the Lord Mayor.
